Adventist Currents was launched in 1983 as an independent adjunct to official Seventh-day Adventist publications.

Currents carried articles about the Adventist Church that addressed both the past and the present—stories that often were damaging to denominational self esteem. Several of its history articles broke new ground and provided documen-tation that required a revision of Adventist history as traditionally taught.

The typical issue was forty-four pages in length and appeared approximately three times a year.

There is not a lot of funding available for bad news, and the journal sold no advertising space; consequently its interesting ride concluded in 1988. An attempt to resurrect Currents in 1990 as a more frequently published newsletter was short lived.
